Open Day a great success

On Saturday 15 September, we held a Come and See Open Day at which young children in the parish and their parents were particularly welcome. It included a wealth of engaging activities:

  • Bell-tower tours
  • Handbells
  • Story-telling
  • Brass-rubbing
  • Jewellery-making
  • Bell-ringing
  • Zip-wire for teddies
  • A childrens’ prayer corner
  • Music making by the Abbey Choristers and Youth Orchestra
  • Abbey School Choir
  • Have a go at knitting
  • Hands-on learning about light

‘Nun’s lunches’, served by ladies in habits, were on sale in the south transept – and we even offered the opportunity for children to bring their teddies along to a wedding and baptism by the Vicar. Blessed by sunny weather, the event attracted over 600 visitors. We are grateful to everybody who worked hard to everybody who contributed to its success.
