The Romsey Abbey Youth Orchestra (RAYO) was established in 2006 under the direction of Caroline Willshire – albeit with only three musicians! The Orchestra has now grown to about 15 youngsters and contributes to the Sung Eucharist worship on the first Sunday of each month. It has also performed at various Abbey and diocesan events.
Most of the musicians regularly perform to a high standard and are members of national or county ensembles and some have been trained through music conservatoires. Their varied repertoire includes contemporary choruses, worship music, songs from the Iona community, Taizé and well-known hymns. The harmonious combination of brass, strings and woodwind resound through the Abbey each month as we worship our Lord in spirit and truth.
New members are always welcome and, as a guide, should be about Grade 5 standard. For further information, please email Caroline or call her on 01794 516138.
