Wartime mayhem as the Choir treads the boards once more
Peace in our time? Think again!
This year’s Epiphany Supper took place on 8 January 2000 and was much enjoyed by all who attended. The evening began with three carols sung by the choir and, it must be said, the audience performed their verses of As with gladness men of old splendidly; it’s the only time for the year when we in the choir listen whilst others sing to us! Our thanks go to the dedicated team of Choirmums who delivered piping hot dishes of stew to us all: no mean feat for a single sitting of over a hundred diners.
The theme for this year’s after supper entertainment, jointly written by Rob Gower and Dick Hewett, was ‘Dads Army’. We hope the audience enjoyed watching as much as we enjoyed sending up ourselves up. There were many wonderful cameos but, in particular, the resemblance between Rob Gower (the Vicar) and Jon de Sausmarez (the Verger) in our semi-scripted chaos with their counterparts in the original TV series was uncanny: they certainly had us in stitches.
