Committing the Choir to disc
We have now recording another CD, comprising many popular favourites such as And I saw a new Heaven by Bainton and O Thou the central orb by Wood. Rarities including From the rising of the Sun by Ouseley and We will rejoice in Thy salvation by a former Abbey organist, Charles Tryhorn, have also been captured. It was especially interesting for us to discover, in particular, just how resonant a building the Abbey really is as each take faded into absolute silence; this should really add to the atmosphere of the recording.
Perhaps the most important feature of this release, however, is the recorded début of Cantate Domino, the anthem composed for us by Ian Schofield and first performed at the dedication in 1999 of the nave organ. It’s an arresting piece with spicy harmonies and strong melodic ideas, not to mention effective use of an independent semi-chorus, here taken by the Girl’s Choir.
In the meantime, though, do take the opportunity to enjoy our previous recordings, available on this site in Real Audio.
