Yolanda Massey reports on activities in the Girls’ Choir

The Girls’ Choir has been steadily adding to its reputation in the Abbey as a valuable contributor to the music here. We have combined successfully with the men from the main Choir on two occasions since the last time of writing: All Saints Sunday and then, more recently, Candlemas. Both of these services received very positive feedback, and we certainly enjoyed the opportunity to improve the standard of our singing and enhance the variety of music that we perform.

We have also been adding to our profile in wider circles: some of our younger members were asked to accompany ‘St. Nicholas’ and his musicians after the service on Advent Sunday to the Market Place and then to King John’s House for ‘Revels’. A good time was had by all who took part despite the disappointing numbers of people in the town to participate in the event.

As well as singing in our normal services in the Abbey, we are headlining the Youth Concert on 29 March, in aid of the Youth Mission trip to South Rwenzori this summer. This promises to be a great evening of music from us and items organised by the youth team. We will be singing many of the old favourites, as well as at least six pieces from our new repertoire.

A big thank you to Daphne for her continuing hard work and the resulting achievements of the choir.
