Last Sunday (20 June), the Friends of Romsey Abbey Choir were favoured with warm sunny weather for their their fund-raising Cream Tea in the Abbey’s South Garth garden.
Nearly 80 people enjoyed tea, home-made cakes, scones and cream, serenaded as they chatted by instrumentalists from the Abbey Youth Orchestra, directed by Caroline Willshire. The event raised £300 towards the Choir’s singing tour in August to Newcastle, Hexham and Carlisle, in conjunction with the walk along Hadrian’s Wall being organised by George’s Trust.
Julie Linehan, one of the choirmums who worked hard to make the event a success, noted afterwards: “Everyone who came yesterday had a good time – and some stopped there most of the afternoon to enjoy the sunshine, the cakes and the music.”
Next Sunday at 4 pm, the Abbey Choir is singing Choral Evensong at St. Peter’s Church, Bournemouth, along with its choir, which has seen its fortunes revive under the leadership of David Coram, previously Assistant Organist at the Abbey.
