We spent an enjoyable afternoon singing Carols at Grove Place Retirement Village. Formerly The Atherley School, it is built around an Elizabethan manor house and has been extensively refurbished.
Our programme began with Torches by John Joubert and ended with Good King Wenceslas, in which residents sang along with us. It comprised music we will be singing at Christmas, plus a few other items from our repertoire. At the end of our concert, we invited them to come along to our Christmas services and then posed for photos in front of the Christmas tree in front of the imposing entrance.
Grove Place then kindly provided a tea, greatly enjoyed by all of us. As well as our musical commitments at the Abbey before Christmas, we will be singing carols on Christmas Eve at Romsey Hospital.
