With Easter being late this year, Ash Wednesday fell yesterday; we contributed Bairstow’s evocative canticle The Lamentation to the Solemn Eucharist with which the Abbey marked the start of Lent. The more austere and contemplative musical theme continues in other music offered this month – not least the motet Ave verum corpus by Colin Mawby, a former Master of the Music at Westminster Cathedral, which we have been learning this term.
By contrast, Evensong on Sunday 16 March takes the form of a Songs of Praise service, so come along and join in all of your favourite hymns! Pam Rhodes, familiar to TV viewers, will be the guest compère.
Back at the end of January, we were pleased to admit Toby Barrett to full membership of the Choir, and Henry Roberts, Jaden King and Henry Roberts to the rank of Senior Chorister. Well done to them all – and our thanks also go to their parents for all their support.
