The highlight of this month is, of course, the Ethelflaeda Festival; both choirs are playing a full part with a Festival Choral Evensong on Sunday 26 October, for which we are learning the rarely heard Bruckner motet Os justi. An eight-part setting of verses from Psalm 37, The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, it complements the legends of Ethelflaeda recounted during the service.
During the 10 am Sung Eucharist, we are also giving the Sanctus from the Mass in D by Ethel Smyth – a real rarity – its first outing. To complete the trio of additions to the repertoire, on Sunday 19 October, we are singing the Gloria from George Oldroyd’s lovely Mass of the Quiet Hour for the first time.
We are holding our AGM on Sunday 26 October; join us to hear more about our year and future plans.
