The months ahead are likely to be a time of transition for both choirs since, if you haven’t already heard, both Robert Fielding and Diane Williams have handed in their notice, with effect from the end of this term. We are grateful to them for their hard work, which we’ll describe more fully in due course. The process of succession planning is now getting underway.
This month, however, the May Day Bank Holiday means the annual excursion to Sherborne Abbey for the boys and men, where will once again be singing a combined Choral Evensong as part of its music festival. The girls, meanwhile, are singing Choral Evensong in Portsmouth Cathedral with Cantate.
Although the April draw has now taken place, new members of our 100 Club are still very welcome. Each number costs £2.50 a month by standing order or £30 a year; the proceeds are split 50/50 between the prize pot and choir funds. It enables us to lay on the trips, workshops and activities that motivate boys, girls and their parents to stick with the choir and provide a musical dimension to worship at the Abbey that we know so many of you enjoy. If you’d like to take part – and of course more members mean a bigger prize fund! – please see or phone Geoff Mordan on 01794 515324.
