We are delighted to announce that the Reverend Thomas Wharton has been appointed to be the new Vicar of Romsey Abbey and St Swithun’s, Crampmoor.
Reverend Wharton is currently Priest-in-Charge at St James’, West End and prior to that held the post of Team Vicar in the parish of Smannell and Enham Alamein, as part of which role he was Chaplain to the Enham Disability Charity.
Thomas is married to Vessi, who works for FairWays in Southampton. They have two sons, Anthony who is currently finishing his third year at Bristol University and Michael who is taking his GCSE’s this Summer. Thomas is an enthusiastic runner and a talented musician who spent a number of years as a professional cellist prior to his ordination to the Church.
Thomas says: ‘I’m really excited to be joining the community of Romsey Abbey and St. Swithun’s, Crampmoor. I’m looking forward to meeting people and finding out about the many things that go on, in and around the Abbey! It will be a privilege to work and pray together in this next chapter of the Abbey’s life.’
Thomas will be moving to Romsey of the summer and will be officially welcomed to the Parish by the Bishop of Southampton, the Right Reverend Dr Jonathan Frost at a service to take place in the Abbey on Monday 3rd September.
We are very much looking forward to Thomas and his family joining us in the near future. We are sure that he will be a great asset not only to our congregations but also the network of Romsey Churches and the local community they serve.
