They seek low maintenance herbaceous perennials that can provide colour throughout the year and are bee/insect friendly, not too invasive or need staking.
Here are some ideas.
Spring-Summer: iris, Siberian iris, alliums, penstemon, delphinium, hellebore, bleeding heart, acted, aquilegia, campanula.
Summer-Autumn: Japanese anemone (pink and white / single and double), rudbeckia, helenium, michaelmas daisies, delphinium, sedum.
