Change is coming …
From Sunday 1st March 2020, there will be a change to the Sunday service times at the Abbey. ⚠️
The 10 am Sung Eucharist will move to the earlier time of 9.30 am, as we begin a new weekly All-Age service in the Abbey at 11.15 am. 🙌
Refreshments, after the 9.30 am service, will continue in the Church Rooms and also in the Abbey leading to the start of the new service. ☕️
There will be another opportunity for a ‘Question and Answer’ session with Revd Thomas Wharton on Sunday 2nd February after the 10am service during coffee. If you have concerns, feedback or questions, please come along to this Q&A session.
The new 11.5am Abbey service will be informal but structured, led by a small group of musicians with contemporary and well-known hymns. It will follow the lectionary and include themed activities for children, and a talk and discussion for the adults, with Holy Communion once a month. The service will last 1 hour and the precise location is yet to be decided. 🎸
A number of volunteer groups are working to plan and coordinate the details. If you are interested in helping out in any way, whether with planning, joining a monthly rota or seeing through the initial development please do get in touch or speak to Thomas. ☎️📮
Sunday school provision will continue during the 9.30 am service, as will our valued Abbey Choir and choral worship. 🎶
The new Sunday service pattern from March 2020 will be:
8 am Holy Communion (said)
9.30 am Sung Eucharist
11.15 am New Service
12.45 pm Holy Baptism
6.30 pm Sung Evensong
The monthly (3rd Sunday) 11.30 am BCP Holy Communion service will move to the last Sunday of the month 3.30 pm Holy Communion service, before Parish Tea.
While valuing and developing our existing choral and sacramental worship, the aim is to plant and grow an additional congregation around a new service that will be rooted in the Anglican tradition but contemporary and creative for all ages.
