An evening with Ensemble DeNOTE – Beethoven, Brahms, Hadow and Schubert.

We look forward to welcoming founder members of the award-winning period chamber group ‘Ensemble DeNOTE’ – John Irving (piano) and Jane Booth (clarinet) – for a fundraising concert supporting music in the Abbey. Founded in 2010, and with critically acclaimed 5* and 4* reviews from The Guardian, The Observer, The Birmingham Post and International Piano, they retain a passion for exploring the sounds of the classic-era on period winds and keyboards. They will be performing a clarinet-piano duo programme of Beethoven, Brahms, Hadow and Schubert.

The programme includes ‘Brahm’s late F minor Sonata Op.120 no.1 with the G major Sonata by his English pupil, Sir William Henry Hadlow – written in a distinctively Brahmisian style. Hadow was a major writer on music and an educationalist of international renown. Also on the bill are Carl Baermann’s arrangements for clarinet and piano of some of Schubert’s most popular Lieder; a selection of Schubert’s ‘Moments Musicaux’ for solo piano; and Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in E minor, Op.90.’
