We would normally be flying our House flag today (25th March) to mark the Annunciation – the day when the Angel Gabriel announced the virgin birth to Mary. Mary said ‘Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.’ (Luke 1.38)

Like 2,300+ English Churches, Romsey Abbey is dedicated to St Mary (& St Ethelflaeda) and this archive photo shows St Mary’s Chapel in the Abbey.

If you would like to pray The Collect prayer for today (you can also hear this online):

We beseech you, O Lord,
pour your grace into our hearts,
that as we have known the incarnation of your Son Jesus Christ by the message of an angel,
so by his cross and passion
we may be brought to the glory of his resurrection;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and fore ever.
Amen.
