Compline at nine
Since public worship has been suspended, members of the Abbey community together with many others, join together in prayer in the isolation of their own homes at 9pm each night. Compline or night prayer is an ancient rite of the church that crosses many traditions. The group invite you to join from your own homes, if and when you can, and to pray the compline prayer from your own tradition or find one that resonates with you from the many that are available online.
The compline rite can be found in a variety of places:
From the Church of England, from the Northumbria Community in the UK, from the Jesuit Community in Dublin, and there are many more online.
Whatever version you choose to pray you are welcome to join this community and to pray Compline at 9pm in your own time zone.
What you say isn’t as important as the intention of your heart. Whether your faith is a burning torch or a flickering candle, you are welcome to join in the quiet and the presence of the Holy One. If your candle went out a long time ago, sit with others in the presence of the Wounded One.
It is a tremendous encouragement to know that you are joining others in prayer. The group has set up a Facebook group for this community of prayer – search in Facebook for ‘Compline at Nine’ and ask to join the group!
They pray together for peace and for the healing of the nations.
Peace be with you.
