We are now starting to re-schedule all the baptisms that were postponed due to COVID-19, but, like everything else there are some changes and things look a bit different from the way they were before. We don’t know at this point how long these changes will be in place.
We are continuing to schedule baptisms on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. however, the changes are as follows:
Baptisms can have a maximum of 12 adults attending as well as children.
Families will be responsible for emailing us a list of those in attendance with contact details for track and trace. We will retain this list for 21 days and then delete it.
Baptisms will be held at the font in St George’s Chapel in the north east corner of the Abbey.
Unfortunately we can’t have music that might encourage singing as we are still not allowed to sing.
You may be thinking ‘but the Abbey’s enormous! Why on earth are they restricting it to 12 adults?’. This is because we need to keep the Abbey open during baptisms and we still need to regulate numbers of visitors at any one time and ensure social distancing.
We fully understand if you would prefer to wait until it’s feasible for us to host a larger gathering.
In the event of queries about your baptism, please contact Rhiannon Wilmott, Children and Families Worker
