Our Director of Music is George Richford, a composer and choral conductor. He was for seven years the Director of Music at St John’s College in Durham University, and broadcast seven times with them, recorded CD’s and toured every year. George also founded the Girls Choir at Newcastle Cathedral and worked there for five years. He was Acting Director of Music at Newcastle Cathedral and highlights included recording with Graeme Danby and Sir Thomas Allen, broadcasting on Radio 3 and conducting the choirs of Durham, St Mary’s Edinburgh and Carlisle Cathedrals in various festivals.

He is composer and is published by Novello, Universal Editions and Shorter House. He is the winner of 4 composing awards, including for the 300th Anniversary of the Three Choirs Festival. He combines this work with that of a music teacher, teaching individual students singing, piano & organ, composing, GCSE, A-level and BTech music. George is hoping to offer tuition to the choristers and other keen young musicians in the Romsey area.

In this combined position, created in 2015, George succeeded both Robert Fielding, formerly Organist and Master of the Choristers, and Diane Williams, formerly Director of Romsey Abbey Girls Choir.
