Sunday 19th July 2020 We continue to be very grateful for your generosity through your online donations and cheques to the parish office and especially for the donations coming into the Abbey using the offertory box or contactless devices. The small device has been updated and now accepts donations of £3 to £45. As the impact of the crisis develops, we know that our financial situation will continue to be a challenge in the months and years ahead and we shall need to look at new ways of fundraising. Such fantastic news to hear that the total raised by our Exercising Spirit and Mind team – running their laps individually on the day when the Rotary Marathon would normally have been held – has reached the wonderful sum of £2,000. Wow! Triangulate Trustee, Bridget Brook says “This year the full amount is being given to Abbey funds at the request of the Triangulate Trustees. Interested in a tour of artist Sophie Hacker’s studio? In May this year, Romsey Abbey was due to host a special service of dedication of a new stained-glass window designed by Sophie Hacker. ‘The Calling Window’ commemorates the bi-centenary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. Due to covid the installation has been delayed and the dedication will now take place on Sunday 16th May 2021, to coincide with the anniversary of Florence’s birthday. Sophie is one of many individuals and establishments that are contributing lots for an auction run by Charles Hanson in a bid to help save the Florence Nightingale Museum. Christian Aid week falls this year from 10 to 16 May 2020 Romsey Christian Aid committee had already taken the decision to discontinue house to house collections, replacing them with a variety of events throughout the year hosted by different participating churches. Unfortunately, at present, neither fundraising options are possible, whilst the demands being made on Christian Aid resources are expanding. The Romsey Christian Aid committee have therefore decided to hold a local Christian Aid fundraising quiz, with the closing date of 16 May and a prize of £25.00 for the winner. Sunday 17th May 2020 would have been the annual Romsey Relay Marathon at Broadlands, but due to the current covid pandemic the event has been postponed. However, the training that the ‘Exercising Spirit and Mind’ team members from the Abbey have put in will not be wasted! We are delighted that the individual members of the team will carry on with each member running 2.6 miles near their home as part of their daily exercise, observing social distancing rules.
