Christmas at Romsey Abbey

Romsey Abbey under broken cloud in snow

Come and join us on our Advent journey as we enter into the spirit of the Christmas season with a wealth of carol services and concerts.

Tracing a spiritual journey from darkness towards light, our Advent Procession service takes place on Saturday 2 December at 6.30pm.

On Sunday 3 December at 7.30pm, Choral Evensong is replaced with a performance by candlelight of Handel’s Messiah, given by the renowned Hanover Band and Chorus, conducted by  by Andrew Arthur.

Children – and their families – always love our Christingle service; this year it’s at 3pm on Sunday 10 December.

On Thursday 21 December, at 7pm, we hold our Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols service, where you can join in with your favourite Carols, as well as enjoying music you might not have heard before, sung by the Abbey Choir.

Tickets for two screenings on 23 December of the classic animated film for children, The Snowman, accompanied by the Romsey Sinfonietta, sold out within 48 hours. Tickets for a third screening at 4pm go on sale on 1 December.

We recommend early arrival on Christmas Eve for the Blessing of the Crib, which starts at 3.30pm; and the Midnight Mass, starting at 11.30pm.

Our main service on Christmas Day, the Sung Eucharist, is at 10am with activities for children in St Anne’s Chapel.
