Two home groups meet each week; their leaders introduce them below.
Wednesday Evening Home Group
Led by Jan and Howard Green, the group usually meets on a Wednesday evening in Brook Way, Romsey, or at Grayling Mead, Fishlake Meadows, Romsey. This is Jan’s introduction.
Our programme is varied and each term we sit together to plan topics that we all think would be interesting to discuss. These have included reading Philip Yancey’s ‘ The Jesus I never knew’: A study on Old Testament characters; a talk on alternative ways to pray and worship; sharing a meal and worship in the Iona tradition; a visit to Winchester Cathedral to hear a talk by a Muslim on ‘Facing Secularism Together’. This summer we had a group session on walking a sacred path using the Labyrinth in Romsey.
Our aim is to provide a safe and friendly environment where we can share our ideas and journey together as we seek a deeper faith in God.
Here are a few quotes from group members: the home group means to me…..
“friendship, fellowship and fun”
“respect for each other’s point of view;”
“a deeper understanding of what faith means as we journey together; a safe place;”
As a group we are hoping to become more creative as we grow and journey together.

Thursday Evening Home Group
The Thursday group includes a diverse group of Christians, who meet most Thursdays for a lively Bible study. Margaret How, its leader writes:
Our group is suitable for people who enjoy a challenging discussion. As a group we respect everyone’s opinion which sometimes includes challenging comparisons between different Christian denominations and other faiths alongside traditional discussion based on the Study guides by prominent authors such as Bishop Tom Wright. In an evening we usually finish one chapter of the study guide and discuss this in depth. We always start and finish with some prayer as well.
We have also followed the Lent course last year and are planning to follow the Lent course this year , The 2015 Lent course will be based around the Rule of St. Benedict and we are looking forward to this. The group is supported by our Vicar who comes to celebrate group Eucharist from time to time, and to answer questions about our group journey.
As for my own background, I have been a Christian for as long as I can remember. I trained as a nurse and then went to Bangladesh to work at St Anne’s Medical Centre , Oxford Mission, living with Anglican Sisters, for over three years. After returning to England, I worked as a health visitor in Brick Lane amongst a Muslim community of Bangladeshis. My husband Trevor is a Baptist, so we worship both in the Abbey and at the Baptist Church in Romsey.
We usually meet on the Woodley Estate in Romsey; we also meet in members houses from time to time.
