During a christening your child will be baptised with water. It’s the start of an amazing journey of faith for your child and a special day for all your friends and family.

Christening acts as a formal welcome into the Church and marks the beginning of the journey into faith. We are able to consider offering a Thanksgiving service instead, when we offer thanks to God for the gift of a child.

If you would like your child to be christened, please contact the Parish Office on 01794 513125 who will be happy to explain the next steps including making a provisional booking. Our Baptism / Christening services take place at Romsey Abbey, on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month, or as close to this pattern as possible. The services start at 12.15pm (this may be later in 2020). Adults seeking baptism should also contact the Parish Office.

The Parish Office will invite you, and your child (children) and Godparents, to attend a Baptism Preparation session. These sessions run monthly in Romsey Abbey Church Rooms, on the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 6pm – 7pm. The session will include a short presentation by the ministry team, time for discussion and an opportunity to meet the Baptism Visitors. You will be given a baptism application form to complete to confirm the booking.

You are also most welcome to come and talk to Rhiannon Wilmott, at our baby and Toddler Group on Wednesday mornings 9.30am – 11am (term-time only).

You can find out more about christening and get lots of useful advice on the Church of England’s christening website http://churchofenglandchristenings.org/

Children are sometimes christened during the 10am Sung Eucharist. The Vicar has also devised an order of service that combines baptism and marriage, should you be interested in combining your child’s christening with your wedding. Older candidates may also be christened directly before being confirmed as part of our annual confirmation service, which usually takes place in late November.
