During a christening your child will be baptised with water. It’s the start of an amazing journey of faith for your child and a special day for all your friends and family.

Christening acts as a formal welcome into the Church and marks the beginning of the journey into faith. As an alternative, you may wish to look at a Thanksgiving service, when we offer thanks to God for the gift of a child.

If you would like your child to be christened, come and talk to Rhiannon at the Baby and Toddler Group on Wednesday mornings (term time only) between 9.30am and 11.00am. This is held in the Church Rooms, just behind the Abbey. If you can’t make Wednesday morning or are an adult, then please come and see us in the Parish Office or telephone us on 01794 513125.

One of our team of visitors will meet you before the service to discuss what will happen on the day and to answer any questions. You can find out more about christening and get lots of useful advice on the Church of England’s christening website

Christening services at Romsey Abbey take place at 12.15pm on most Sundays. Children are sometimes christened during the 10.00am Sung Eucharist. The Vicar has also devised an order of service that combines baptism and marriage, should you be interested in combining your child’s christening with your wedding. Older candidates may also be christened directly before being confirmed as part of our annual confirmation service, which usually takes place in late November.

Once you have decided about having a Christening service, please contact the Parish Office to provisionally agree a date (01794 513125 / and they can advise you further.
