Ash Wednesday Eucharist with imposition of ashes
Ash Wednesday Eucharist with imposition of ashes

Eucharist Service with choir at 7.30pm
(also Euchairst with ashes at 9.15am in St. Nicholas' chapel)
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a time of reflection, prayer, abstinence and charitable action as we are encouraged to grow deeper in our spiritual journey as we head towards holy week, through the darkness of Good Friday to the joy of Easter Day.
During this service we are reminded of our mortality and reliance on God's love and grace with the symbolic 'imposition of ashes', a mark of the cross made on the forehead with ashes burned from palm crosses from the previous year. We hear the words "Remember you are but dust, and to dust you shall return. Turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ".
Although penitential, the service of Ash Wednesday is one of hope and encouragement for the Christian community and reminds us of the joy of being loved, redeeemed and called to share in the wonder of Christ's death and resurrection.
