Peregrine Update 16th May 2025

We are delighted to say the Peregrine eggs have hatched and we have 3 chicks! The male was seen bringing food and feeding all 3 chicks breakfast on Sunday 11th May. The chicks were first seen on 9th May. We are liasing with the relevant professionals with a view to having the chicks ringed and will share updates and hopefully better images in future.

Peregrine Update 18th April 2025

The female peregrine appears to have laid at least 3 eggs on the north west end of Romsey Abbey in an old nesting tray. While the peregrines were behaving as expected with the male bringing food to the female and both scraping a hollow in a new nesting tray placed in a turret by Wildlife Windows, the female chose to lay eggs in an old nesting tray placed in 2021. The pergerines had shown no previous interest in the old nesting tray and last year (2024), two abandoned peregrine eggs were found in the turret where the new nest tray has been placed.

There is currently no camera set up to view the old nest tray. The pair of peregrines continue to incubate the eggs and are being monitored with advice from Kieth Betton, Chair of Hampshire Ornithological Society. We hope to bring news of any future developments and hatchings as they happen.

Just a reminder, Peregrines are protected by law and it is not permitted to fly a drone to view them.
